India Wildlife Sanctuaries

In the sphere of global tourism, diverse flora and fauna makes India a well known exotic wildlife destination. India is a homeland of several fabulous wildlife sanctuaries and national parks which makes it a paradise for nature and wildlife lovers. According to Indian Government census there are 80 national parks and over 441 wildlife sanctuaries . These sanctuaries are home of around 2000 species of birds , 3500 species of mammals , nearly 30000 different kinds of insects and more than 15000 varieties of plants . This huge diversity attracts scores of wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts from all over the world.

Some of the popular national parks and wildlife sanctuaries which must be visited are :

Kanha National Park

The Kanha National Park, a tiger reserve, is one of the well known wildlife sanctuaries in India. It is located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh . This park spreads over an area of about 1,940 Sq km. The extraordinary natural beauty and rich biodiversity of this place inspired Rudyard Kipling to write his all time classic Jungle Book .

Kanha National Park

The diverse topography and a moderate climate nurture diverse flora which is a lifeline for varied fauna. According to the Census this bio reserve supports about 70 species of trees, 22 species of large mammals and over 300 species of birds . Tiger is the foremost attraction of this place. The high density of tiger makes it a high flying destination among wildlife enthusiasts who wish to see tiger and leopard.

Bandhavgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

It is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries of India which is known for the highest density of Tiger Population in India. This national park is located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. It spreads over Vindhya Hill, which has a core area of 105 sq km and a buffer area of approximately 400 sq km. Varied topography of this place supports diverse biodiversity which makes it a notable national park of India. According to the Census this park is the homeland of 22 species of mammals, 250 species of bird and several species of fauna. Attraction of roaming Tigers is the premier drawcard of this place that magnetize scores of tourists to this place.

Corbett Wildlife Sanctuary

It is one of the finest and most picturesque wildlife sanctuaries of India which is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand State. It is the oldest national park in India which is named after, the hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett . Due to his sincere efforts this national park came into being in 1936. This is also the first tiger reserve of India to be covered under the Project Tiger in 1973. It is located in the Sub-Himalayan geographical region that makes it rich in ecology. The ecology of this national park supports about 50 mammal species, 25 reptile species and 110 tree species, 580 bird species.

Some of the other well known national park of India are Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary, Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary and many more.
